Each year Whitefish Winter Carnival celebrates a Royal Court. Candidates are nominated for their outstanding service to Whitefish, and are voted upon by multiple groups across the community. We are thrilled to recognize the many exceptional individuals who make up the Whitefish Winter Carnival Royal Court.

Thank you for all you do!

Geoffrey Calaway

KING ULLR LXIII

Geoffrey was born in Great Falls , Montana, the last of nine children. His parents started and operated a potato chip and french fry company, Big Stack Chip and Foods, for 24 years. He spent his winters skiing King’s Hill and summers at the family cabin on Lake Blaine. The roller skating rink at Lake Blaine was always a summer highlight. His parents retired and moved to Boise, Idaho where Geoff graduated High School. He then went on to study at Colorado State University and University of Utah, majoring in skiing, while managing to get a Bachelor of Science in Biology and Chemistry. He went on to receive his Doctor of Optometry degree at the University of Houston, college of Optometry.

After an internship in London, England, he entered an amazing practice with the Berkley Eye Clinic in Houston. The clinic was involved in multiple FDA therapeutic and surgical studies and was one of the first FDA sites for LASIK refractive surgery. He served on the Texas Optometric Association and Harris county Optometric Boards and was an Adjunct Professor of Optometry at the University of Houston College of Optometry. He was a proud member of the Society to Prevent Blindness as well. He practiced for 21 years, but after numerous back surgeries, he and his wife, Lisa, decided it was time to return home. Whitefish was the perfect place to raise their two boys, Ian and Aidan. The summer of 2007 they packed up the U haul, and drove to Whitefish where the summer heat that year set an all time high.

Even in a back brace, Geoff found his second calling in volunteer coaching. Soccer, Little Dribblers basketball, baseball and even Little Guy Football, after reading Football for Dummies first. He taught the boys the beauty of Nordic and Alpine skiing leading to a decade of ski racing all over Montana and even Alaska. He served for many years as a board member of the following amazing non-profits; the Flathead Valley Ski Education Foundation, promoting youth ski racing in the valley, Flathead Rapids, as well as the Knights of Columbus at St. Charles Borromeo. He is currently serving on the Alpine Theater Project board, and continues his proud association with the Knights of Columbus and all of the charitable activities they are associated with.

Geoff uses his past optometric skills as a member of the Lion’s Club of Whitefish and has been doing the school vision screenings with the help of the Lion’s Club generous donation of the 2 high tech, Plus Optik, vision screeners and multiple worthy volunteers!!

He loves all things outdoors and chose to live in Whitefish because of the close proximity to the ski hill where he would spend every second of the winter season, if he could. Summertime, he loves spending time on Whitefish lake and Glacier Park.

He is very excited and humbled to be asked to be King Ullr LXIII and is looking forward to representing Whitefish. Let the 80’s party begin!!!!

Lisa Calaway

QUEEN OF THE SNOWS LXIII

Lisa was born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah. Graduated from the University of Utah and moved to Los Angeles where she worked for SkyWest Airlines. While in Los Angeles she was hired with United Airlines as a flight attendant and was based in London, England for 6 ½ years. While in London, Lisa met Geoff Calaway and promptly moved to Houston, Texas where Geoff was practicing optometry. 15 years and two amazing boys later, Geoff and Lisa wanted to return to their roots in the west and decided upon Whitefish, Montana. In Whitefish, they found the village they were looking for to raise their boys. Ian was 5 and Aidan was 3½ when they arrived here in June of 2007. Happy to leave the big cities behind and jump into getting to know their chosen happy place! Lisa became a member of the St. Charles Borromeo choir and taught the kindergarten class there for years, until she was asked to join the Whitefish PTA. The PTA has since turned into the Family Involvement Team(FIT) and has joined with the Whitefish Education Foundation, where Lisa serves as the chairperson for the FIT. She loves teaching the Arts with the Masters classes at Muldown and she and her husband have become regulars in helping with the Lion’s club eye testing at all the Whitefish schools. She has served on the HOA board for the Grouse Mountain homeowners and currently serves on the board of ATP. She has worked at the Village shop for over 10 years, and owns her own property management business, and loves volunteering at the Whitefish Theater Company box office and helping with Feat x Feet where her boys have loved being a part of the tap dancing ensemble.

Taking full advantage of all Whitefish has to offer, Lisa loves boating on Whitefish lake, golfing, Nordic and downhill skiing, hiking in Glacier park and scrapbooking. She loves her book club and her Friday morning breakfast club! She is so excited to be a part of the tradition of the Whitefish Winter Carnival, and very humbled to be asked to carry on such an amazing tradition. Let the festivities begin!!!!

Joel Pemberton

PRIME MINISTER LXIII

Joel Pemberton was born and raised in the small island town of Anacortes, Washington. Growing up in a small town, Joel’s dream was to have a small community-based business to provide goods and services through long-term relationships. He left Anacortes to attend college in British Columbia where he met his wife, Chantel. After graduation, they married and settled down back in NW Washington, and eventually on Fidalgo Island. Although living in the San Juan Islands was indeed amazing, they were always drawn to the mountains. When they had an opportunity to relocate Joel’s practice as a financial advisor with Edward Jones to Whitefish 10 years ago, they jumped on it. Their three children have been able to grow up on Big Mountain and in Glacier National Park, and they all agree that the move was the best thing they ever did for the family.

Upon arrival in Whitefish, Joel immediately got involved in the Rotary Club of Whitefish. He served as the Local Project Committee Chair for three years and took the lead on the Bakke Nature Preserve Project, along with the City of Whitefish, the Whitefish Community Foundation and other amazing Rotarians. Joel served as President of the Club in 2018-2019 and as Chairman of the RCW Charitable Fund Board in 2019-2021. Joel has also previously served on the Board of Directors for Flathead Industries. Joel and Chantel are regular volunteers at Whitefish Chamber of Commerce events and Whitefish Young Life, serve at their church, and Joel is Chairman of the Board for Absolute Ministries, a new program that helps people break the cycle of rehab.

Joel is passionate about serving his clients at Edward Jones and making an impact in his community. He is also a “ski-junky” - enjoying both skiing and snowboarding as well as XC skiing. In the "off-season" (every season that’s not ski season) he enjoys mountain biking, paddle boarding, hiking, golfing and camping with his family and friends as much as possible

Clare Goble

Clare Goble

DUCHESS OF LARK LXIII

Clare Goble is a Whitefish native, born and raised by her parents Jim and Mary Ellen Goble, who are also both Whitefish born and bred. She enjoys spending time with her two brothers, Malcolm and Owen Goble, who also still reside here in the Flathead Valley. After graduating from Whitefish High School in 1999, Clare attended college at Montana State University in Bozeman where she received a BS in Education. After graduation and a short term teaching job, Clare made the decision to pursue her career in the restaurant industry; a decision made solely because she was not yet ready to give up the ski bum lifestyle.

Clare paid her way in Bozeman by waiting tables and slinging pizzas at MacKenzie River Pizza Company. That job grew into multiple management roles and eventually to her current position at the Glacier Restaurant Group Corporate office as the Director of Training Development.

Clare enjoys time with her long term boyfriend Ryan Brown. Together they enjoy skiing, swimming and all things the Flathead has to offer. Most importantly they love simply spending time with friends and family.

An active member in the community, Clare serves on the Whitefish Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and is also a Regional Manager for multiple restaurants in downtown Whitefish.

The Whitefish Winter Carnival has been near and dear to the Goble family for decades. Year after year, the family has welcomed friends into their home on second street for an open house. A tradition that will only become more meaningful now that Clare has been honored with the title of Duchess of Lark.
